Questions guests ask
Frequently asked questions
Check-in time, veg and non-veg food, pets, cancellation and how to reach Ajara — all in one place. If your question is not here, WhatsApp us and we will answer it and add it to this page.
Staying at the farm
Check-in is from 12:00 noon and check-out is by 10:00 am. If you are arriving late or leaving in the evening, tell us in advance and we will keep your bags and arrange tea — an early check-in is usually possible when the cottage is free.
Well-behaved pets are welcome, but please tell us before you arrive. Keep dogs on a lead around the cattle, the well and the fields, and do not let them into the dining area or the kitchen. There is no extra charge for one pet per booking; for more, ask us first.
Yes, with care. The courtyard and the cottage verandahs are flat and safe for walking, and children usually love the milking and the bullock cart. There is a pond and a well on the farm, so children must be supervised at all times — there is no lifeguard or fencing. The waterfall trail is not suitable for guests with knee or heart trouble, or for very young children.
There is 4G on Jio and Airtel in most of the courtyard, but the signal fades near the fields and the dormitory. There is no Wi-Fi in the cottages and we would rather keep it that way, but if you must work, the office room near the farmhouse has a wired broadband connection you may sit at.
Food & meals
Both. The everyday farm thali is pure vegetarian — bhakri, seasonal bhaji, pithla, rice, and a Kolhapuri-style rassa. If you would like chicken, mutton or fresh fish, tell us at the time of booking (at least a day ahead); we cook it the Kolhapuri way, and the pond fish is sometimes available on the same day. Jain food can be prepared with advance notice.
Breakfast is between 8:00 and 9:30 am, lunch at 1:00 pm and dinner at 8:30 pm. Meals are served in the courtyard, or on your verandah if you prefer. If you are out for the day, tell us the previous evening and we will pack something for you at no extra cost.
Booking & cancellation
Cancel more than 7 days before check-in and we refund the full advance. Between 7 and 3 days, half of the advance is refunded. Less than 3 days before check-in, the advance is not refundable — but you may move your dates once, to any available date within the next six months, at no cost. Monsoon cancellations because of a red-alert warning in Kolhapur are always refunded in full.
A 30% advance confirms your dates; the balance is settled at the farm in cash or by UPI. We will send the UPI ID or bank details on WhatsApp once your dates are confirmed. No online payment gateway is used.
Yes. A day visit runs from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and includes lunch, a farm walk and a bullock cart ride. Day visits over the weekend fill up quickly — book at least a week ahead by WhatsApp. The dormitory rate and the group discount do not apply to day visits.
Getting here
Ajara is about 40 minutes from Amboli Ghat, roughly three hours from Kolhapur city and four hours from Goa. Buses from Kolhapur and Sawantwadi drop you at Ajara market, and we pick guests up from there free of charge. Self-drive guests get free parking inside the farm compound; the last two kilometres are a village road, so a car with decent ground clearance is easier than a very low vehicle in the monsoon.
